Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Therapy

Evidence-based therapy for meaningful behavioral change
ABA Therapy is a structured, science-based approach that helps individuals—especially those with autism spectrum disorder (ASD)—improve socially significant behaviors. . Services are delivered throughout Lee County and Harnett Couty, in home, school, and community settings, supporting integration and self-sufficiency. We focus on helping clients build communication, social, academic, and daily living skills through customized therapy plans.

What We Do

Discrete Trial Training (DTT)

Definition: A structured teaching method that breaks skills into small steps taught one at a time using prompts and reinforcement.

Example: A therapist may use DTT to teach a child how to identify colors by showing flashcards and giving praise or a small reward for each correct response.

Natural Environment Teaching (NET)

Definition: Uses naturally occurring situations and interests to teach skills in real-life settings.

Example: If a child is playing with blocks, the therapist may use that moment to teach words like “stack,” “tall,” or “more.”

Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA)

Definition: Evaluates the reasons behind challenging behaviors to create effective behavior intervention plans.

Example: A therapist may observe a child who hits when asked to clean up and determine the behavior is a form of escape. The plan would then include alternative ways to communicate “I need help” or “I’m not ready.”

Positive Reinforcement Strategies

Definition: Encourages desirable behavior by rewarding it, increasing the likelihood of it happening again.

Example: If a client completes a task, they might earn extra playtime or a preferred snack as reinforcement.

Real-Time Data Collection and Progress Monitoring

Definition: Tracks behavior and skill acquisition consistently to measure effectiveness and adjust therapy.

Example: Therapists record how often a child makes eye contact during conversations to track improvements over time.

How Long Is Treatment?

ABA therapy is typically intensive, with sessions ranging from 20 to 40 hours per week. Most clients participate in therapy for 1–3 years, though frequency and duration are tailored to each individual’s goals and progress.
