Developmental Therapy
Supporting children as they grow and learn
Developmental Therapy focuses on helping young children reach key milestones in communication, social interaction, emotional growth, and learning. Services are delivered throughout Durham County, Harnett Couty, Wake County in home, school, and community settings, we work closely with families to support children who are experiencing developmental delays or challenges.
What We Do
Play-Based Interventions
Definition: Uses structured play as a tool to promote learning and development across cognitive, motor, and social-emotional domains.
Example: A therapist may engage a toddler in a pretend tea party to teach turn-taking, vocabulary, and imaginative thinking.
Social-Emotional Development Support
Definition: Helps children identify emotions, build self-regulation skills, and form positive relationships.
Example: A child may learn to recognize when they feel angry and use a calming strategy like squeezing a stress ball instead of yelling.
Developmental Milestone Tracking
Definition: Monitors a child’s growth in areas like speech, motor coordination, and social skills to identify delays and measure progress.
Example: Therapists may track when a child starts using two-word phrases or begins to climb stairs independently.
Routine-Based Teaching
Definition: Embeds learning opportunities into everyday routines to support skill development in natural environments.
Example: A therapist might help a parent turn toothbrushing time into a learning activity about sequencing (first toothpaste, then brush).
Family Involvement and Coaching
Definition: Educates and empowers caregivers to reinforce therapeutic strategies at home and advocate for their child’s needs.
Example: A parent may be coached on how to encourage joint attention during play by sitting face-to-face and modeling simple actions.
How Long Is Treatment?
Developmental Therapy sessions are typically offered 1–2 times per week. The average treatment duration is 6 to 12 months, but this can vary based on each child’s developmental progress and family goals.
