Community-Based Rehabilitative Services (CBRS)
Bringing support into homes, schools, and communities
CBRS helps individuals with mental health or developmental needs function more independently in their daily environments. Services are delivered throughout Durham County, Harnett Couty, Wake County in home, school, and community settings, supporting integration and self-sufficiency.
What We Do
Daily Living and Social Skill Building
Definition: Teaches essential self-care and interpersonal skills needed for independence.
Example: A therapist may help a teen practice preparing simple meals, brushing teeth regularly, or learning how to introduce themselves and ask for help in social situations.
Behavioral and Emotional Regulation Techniques
Definition: Supports individuals in recognizing their emotions and managing behaviors through positive coping strategies.
Example: A child might learn to use deep breathing and visual schedules to calm down when feeling overwhelmed at school.
Community Access and Participation Coaching
Definition: Guides clients in navigating public settings and safely participating in community life.
Example: A therapist might accompany a young adult to a grocery store to practice budgeting, making purchases, and interacting with staff.
Individual Goal Setting and Progress Tracking
Definition: Collaboratively sets measurable goals and tracks improvements over time.
Example: A client may set a goal to independently take public transportation, with progress monitored through weekly milestones.
Caregiver and Family Support
Definition: Offers education and guidance to family members to reinforce skills at home and ensure consistency.
Example: A therapist may coach parents on how to create a structured home routine that supports their child’s behavior and communication needs.
How Long Is Treatment?
CBRS is typically provided 1–3 times per week. Treatment duration varies by individual, generally lasting several months to over a year depending on the person’s needs and progress.
