Congress just revived Medicare’s telehealth waivers—after letting them lapse during a messy spending fight and 42-day shutdown—so occupational therapy can keep happening virtually through January 31, 2026, with retroactive reimbursement back to October 1. Providers can finally submit or resubmit held claims, though CMS still owes everyone clearer instructions. While this short-term fix is welcome, AOTA is pushing hard for a permanent solution, backing bipartisan bills like the Telehealth Modernization Act and other legislation that would lock in OTPs as long-term Medicare telehealth providers and avoid more last-minute policy whiplash.
